So last night, I learnt how to do a triangle again. No joke. It never ceases to amaze me how much you keep learning in BJJ, even the basics!
Gustavo is one cool character, and super nice. Mach 1 is very much an old boxing gym in appearance, and looking around the class, there were a large number of white belts and a couple of blues. Sore from training the day before, I had a bit of a sigh to myself for what I was sure was going to be a rough night's training. Boy was I wrong!
Technique of the night was triangle from guard and a couple of variations to boot. I paired up with one of the senior white belts, who surprised me with a few technical details I'm sure to add to my game (thanks Danny)! Gustavo himself is freakishly smooth, casually explaining the technique as he effortlessly swings his legs and hips at impossible angles.
Onto specific training, and I got a feel for a couple of other guys in the class. Strong, but technical, I had the opportunity to really push against some of these guys without worrying about being hurt. Maybe they were just shocked to see a girl in class (Gustavo told me he had no girls training) and were being super nice?
When rolling time came around, I was suprised (again) when Gustavo grabbed me for the first round - way cool. Had an awesome technical roll, and then paired up with another blue belt, then a newer white belt. All tough rolls, but overall, a good night's training. Thanks for the roll guys!
